Alliance One eliminates foreign ATM surcharges for member/customer cardholders of participating financial institutions (mostly credit unions and a few small community banks). The process relies on card issuers to provide us their bank identification numbers (BINs), and ATM drivers to upload those BINs into their back-end systems, allowing ATMs to waive the foreign ATM surcharge. Each month, we send a BIN file to all terminal drivers. BINs are updated as needed by each participating FI.
Participants with ATMs are asked to include all ATMs into the Alliance and each ATM must have an Alliance One placard on/near the machine.
Alliance One in NOT a network, and does not, in any way, affect the routing of the ATM transaction.
Alliance One maintains a Web site at www.allianceone.coop, which provides information for both cardholders and participants. The website is primarily used as an ATM search engine. Using MapQuest® search and mapping platforms, cardholders can enter location information and search for the nearest ATM. Search criteria include street, city, state, zip, public access, acceptance of deposits, acceptance of foreign deposits, and two gateways (Cirrus® and Plus®). Additionally, financial institution participants can login to the “Financial Institution” only area by typing in their R/T or ABA number. In this area, participants can learn more about joining Alliance One, order marketing supplies or gain access to the online screens by which they can make changes to their BINs or their terminal locations.
